BMW's head of design, Chris Bangle has come under fire recently for his redesigns
of several key BMW models. There is good reason for this. The timeless
style BMW has carefully refined over the past 25 years has all been ruined
in one fell swoop.
One of the less heinous efforts is this Z-4. I was quickly passed by one of
these cars the other day and actually got that exilharating "what
a great car that was" feeling for a moment. Let's just fix the extraneous
"A pillar" extension line and remove the lighted roundel affectation
so we can all enjoy the experience of being passed a little bit more. This
car may today's fashion statement but I predict will not be regarded as
classic style in twenty years. May I have a Z8, please, Mummy?
Let's hope Bangle doesn't ruin the 3 Series as he has the 7 and the particularly
horrible new 5 Series.
